Europe - Genetic Nursing

The European Board of Human Genetics has recently set up an accreditation system for nurses or genetic counsellors working within Europe. There are currently 39 European Registered Genetic Nurses or Counsellors The role and practice of genetic nurses varies across Europe and has been the focus of a recent paper 'A study of the practice of individual genetic counsellors and genetic nurses in Europe' H Skirton et al. Journal of community genetics, 2013 and Knowledge of genetics and the role of the nurse in genetic health care: a survey of Italian nurses L Godino et al. - Journal of advanced nursing, 2013. Often genetic nurses and genetic counsellors (many from a nursing background) work together within genetic services.
